Contract catering company, Capitol Caterers has recently invested over R2 million in property, operational equipment and personnel for their accredited training division, Midlands Hospitality Academy.

Commenting at the opening of their new premises in Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg on 15 August 2019, Group Chairman, Mr Giles King said this investment was testament to the company’s commitment to upskilling not only the staff of Capitol Caterers, but with foresight in providing external training to the hospitality sector at large.

Kelvin Phillips, Director of the Midlands Hospitality Academy, added that the aim of the Midlands Hospitality Academy was to educate and empower a skilled, competent and confident workforce through training interventions that would enhance both the skills and employability of personnel in the hospitality sector. “By year end we anticipate 40 employees to be trained on a full qualification and a further 150 on various skills programmes,” said Phillips.

The Midlands Hospitality Academy is accredited with CATHSSETA and the Quality Council for Trade and Occupation (QCTO). Courses offered include accredited Chef programmes, Professional Cookery and Food Service Assistants, amongst others. Each course covers comprehensive theory, practical and workplace experience components.

The Midlands Hospitality Academy also works in association with the International Hotel School and Drumbeat.

The new premises of Midlands Hospitality Academy was officially opened by Janet Mill, HR Director of Capitol Caterers. “The idea of a training academy was always a goal for Capitol Caterers. We are excited by the impact this training academy will contribute to the community and the deployment of skills to this industry”, concluded Mill.
